Sriram was my colleague at Cognizant way
back in 2005 and 2006. It gives me immense pleasure to learn about his second
graphic novel, Grit. Read on.
‘Grit’,
a graphic novel by Sriram et al., was launched on 21 July 2019 in Bangalore,
and it’s already into the second print run. It got 55 reviews, 52 of which are
5-stars and three are 4-stars. Sriram’s first graphic novel, Mai, was
released in April 2018. The book is about two heroes, Malvika Iyer and her
mother.
Grit:
The Major Story is the true account of a man who rose from humble beginnings to
become a hero. It is about the inspiring story of Major DP Singh, a Kargil war
veteran and India's first blade runner. Faced with the tragic loss of a limb
while serving on the frontlines during the Kargil War, Major Singh's
indomitable spirit came to the fore. With the support of his family, friends
and dedicated healthcare professionals, and aided by the training he received
in the army, he set a fresh course for his life.
Major
was 13 yrs old when he decided that he wanted to join the Indian army, an
important decision he made at that very young age. And to signify that number,
the book has been made in 13 chapters. Another reason is, 13 (tera) is a
special number in Sikhism(‘tera’ also means "yours") and the religion
had a great influence on him.
Today, Major Singh is a well-known athlete and motivational speaker, inspiring thousands of people to believe in their innate strength and resilience. Vividly portrayed in graphic form, his story will spur every reader to face life's challenges with spirit and goodwill.
The
book is published by Hachette India and is available on Amazon. All
proceeds from the sales of the book will go to The Challenging Ones, an NGO
started by Maj. Singh. The cover design shows the tricolour of the Indian flag
and narrates Major's story of transition as a blade runner after the blast. Out
of the 160 pages, 24 are in colour to show the important phases in his life.
Reviews
From Amish
Tripathi, author of the Shiva Trilogy
'Many surrender to challenges that life throws at them. Some persevere. But a few conquer life itself. What Major Singh has done, against all the odds that he faced, is truly worthy of the exhilarating title of this book: Grit: The Major Story. My compliments to Ferose and Sriram for recording what is truly a tale that should be read by all. Inspirational!'
